One of the many "instant celebrities" who achieved fame by virtue of the reality-television phenomenon that overtook Hollywood during the early years of the millennium, Heidi Montag attained stardom on The Hills (2006). This program -- a spin-off of the earlier Laguna Beach (2004) -- observed events from the lives of a couple of young L.A. socialites (Montag and Lauren Conrad) enduring the ups and downs of a melodramatic reality television life, with all of the inclusive breakups, ugly gossip, backbiting, friendship-destroying quarrels, and a whirlwind of other complications that such a lifestyle entails. Montag also made headlines (and a magazine cover or two) when she received extensive plastic surgery in the fall of 2007.

Four of us laughed very hard at this movie, mother, father, 13 and 18 year old males. This is a really good, funny movie, that I think most families would enjoy. It doesn't run the more normal Disney route, in fact if you didn't know it was Disney, you'd never put it in the same league as the cartoons or the marvelous company that brought us Beverly Hills Chiuahua or College Road Trip.

Adam Sandler is just exactly the right kind of funny in this film. He used to have the Jim Carrey disease, too much over the top stupidity that was just Adam Sandler playing Adam Sandler. He's grown up a bit, he can still crack a good slapstick joke. He didn't go so far away like in Punch Drunk Love to the serious side. He's really got a heart of gold in this film. I'm not the biggest Sandler fan, but in this film he works well.

Keri Russel is simply gorgeous as Sandler's ultimate love interest. August Rush (August Rush) another fantastic family film, but this time about fitting in. Lucy Lawless (Xena) is so perfectly wound up tight at the hotel front desk. Courtney Cox, oh poor Courtney, I just wish she would get some kind of strong good role. She is Sandlers sister in this movie, and is the set up line to many of his jokes. She just seems to deserve better, or I want her to be better in the movies. Guy Pearce is so awful as the hotel nemesis, he looks like an ugly version of Brad Pitt. And Richard Griffiths (Dersley in the Harry Potter series) is perfectly fat, stupid, and mostly evil in this film - not much of a stretch from the Potter films. The supporting cast is very good - Rob Schneider shows up and is restrained.

Oh just such a good fun film. The clips make it seem almost like a Ground Hog day, where Sandler is trapped in the bedtime stories. It doesn't really play like that. The stories are there as a plot element, but it's more about heart and doing the right things than those stories. In fact that is the point of this film, be good, work hard, and good things will happen to you.

From a technical standpoint, this is standard high quality Hollywood film making. Big budget, well shot, well edited, well recorded...no nits to pick anywhere really. It's what we expect from a good current film. Even the CG effects are sufficiently well done even on a television screen. Yes the Roman Colessium looks fake and CG, but it's also a dream sequence, so it's not a horrible thing.

The film is rated PG. It seems like younger viewers will get this film. I laughed when Skeeter finally kisses Jill, the children's mother Wendy puts her hands over their eyes so they don't watch. It's so perfectly that age, I remember it so well with my boys (don't watch the smoochy moment in the film). There are a few slightly off color jokes, but they are really mild. No violence. Nothing even remotely approaching nudity (Skeeter does hold up a pair of underwear at one point to show that he brought his toothbrush, toothpaste and clean underwear....well not so clean). It seems most children would get this humor and love the funny story.

The DVD had no special features at all. A barren disc except for the movie. Well it does have that stupid Disney "fastplay". Whoopie, press the menu button to avoid that nonsense. When will Disney learn to get rid of that silly "feature."

Highly recommend this one. I think most will enjoy the humor and nice message. I know four of us did.

Jennifer Aniston makes a good case for proving that acting talent can be absorbed by osmosis. From her father John Aniston's stardom on Days of Our Lives to her godfather Telly Savalas, the actress was surrounded by plenty of inspiration from an early age. As Aniston attended the Rudolph Steiner School as a child, she was interested in many forms of art and proved to be a talented painter, eventually having one of her pieces displayed at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. Acting also appealed to her, and became her primary focus after graduating from New York's prestigious High School for the Performing Arts in 1987. She took roles in off-Broadway productions such as +For Dear Life and +Dancing on Checker's Grave before she began honing her skills in television acting with appearances on shows like Quantum Leap and Herman's Head. Before long, Aniston's film and television resumé had grown into a laundry list of one-time appearances, short-lived series, and B-level movies. By 1994, the handful of bit parts and failed shows on Aniston's resumé had established her as a working actress but created little foreshadowing about her future as a star. Her upcoming audition for the role of Monica Gellar in a pilot for a sitcom at that point titled "Friends Like These," however, would prove to be quite auspicious. The role in question would eventually be filled by Courteney Cox Arquette, as Aniston changed her mind and opted to try out for Rachel Green, a young suburbanite living on her own for the first time and working as a coffee-shop waitress in New York City. The rest, as they say, is history -- "Friends Like These" would become Friends, the hugest sitcom in years, quickly making Aniston America's sweetheart. Friends' obsessive following churned up a particular interest in Aniston's signature hairstyle. The shag cut known as "The Rachel" could be seen on heads all over the country. Even as the fad fell out of popularity in the salons, Aniston's star continued to rise. Still adored on one of the most popular television shows in history, she moved to the big screen in romantic comedies like She's the One (1996), Picture Perfect, 'Til There Was You (1997), and The Object of My Affection (1998).

In the late '90s, she also began dating actor Brad Pitt. Talk of Pitt's recently ended engagement to actress Gwyneth Paltrow quickly dissipated as "Gwen and Brad" turned to "Jen and Brad." The two young stars became the ultimate Hollywood power couple and celebrated with a star-studded wedding in July of 2000. The new millennium found Aniston at the top of her game. Raking in a million dollars an episode for her role on the still popular Friends and married to one of the hottest men in Hollywood, she seemed to have it all. Secure in her A-List position, she took the opportunity to work on low-profile films and cult hits, such as 1999's Office Space, and 2000's Rock Star. Aniston's talent for dramatic roles was finally given a proper outlet when she played the lead in 2002's The Good Girl, which found critics surprised and impressed with her range. She made no attempt to shy away from comedy, however, starring alongside Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty, and Ben Stiller in 2004's Along Came Polly. In 2004, as Friends began what would be its final season, Aniston's immediate future was filled with tremendous turmoil and change. Only a week into 2005, she and husband Brad Pitt legally separated, surrounded by rumors that Pitt had sparked a serious romantic connection with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie. The media leapt onto the story, desperate to sate the public's curiosity about how such a seemingly perfect union could come to an end. Rumors swilled about the circumstances of their break-up, citing everything from disagreements over children to taste in interior decorating. Aniston's steady poise and willowy figure created a division in the public perception between herself and the more curvaceous and risqué Jolie.

Media frenzy buzzed around the breakup long after she and Pitt officially filed for divorce in March. Vendors even started selling T-shirts reading "Team Aniston" and "Team Jolie," though most of the public seemed to side with the slighted Aniston. The actress plowed ahead, however, marking 2005 by starring with Clive Owen in the gritty thriller Derailed and with Shirley MacLaine and Kevin Costner in the comedy Rumor Has It.... 2006 brought the ensemble film Friends With Money, as well as another movie that would help put her divorce in the past...in more ways then one. Child actress Lindsay Lohan was already an experienced performer when she made her feature debut in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Born in New York City, Lohan began modeling at age three. After appearing in numerous TV commercials, Lohan moved to series TV with a role on the soap operaAnother World from 1996 to 1997. Cast as The Parent Trap's scheming twin sisters after a six month search for just the right girl, Lohan succeeded in filling Hayley Mills' shoes, winning over audiences with her pert charm as both the Californian Hallie and the British-raised Annie. She subsequently starred in the Disney TV film Life-Size (2000). Subsequently cast in actress Bette Midler's short-lived sitcom Bette, Lohan took a turn as a teenage gossip columnist (Get a Clue[2002 classic, Freaky Friday (2003). Stepping into the shoes formerly filled by Jodie Foster, Lohan and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis brought a winning, new chemistry to the film that made it a sleeper summer hit.



Lohan kicked off 2004 with her first big starring vehicle, the comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Met with mixed reviews and modest box-office receipts, the film didn't cross over from the teen audience the way Friday did. Only a mere two months later, Lohan proved she could carry a film. The Tina Fey-penned Mean Girls debuted at number one, recouping its budget and then some in its first week of release. The spotlight on the then-16-year-old Lohan changed almost overnight, as she quickly became a tabloid fixture: speculation on her body, her nightclubbing, her string of high-profile boyfriends, her incarcerated father, and her feuds with a variety of other young female celebrities became inescapable. Perhaps predictably, 2004 also saw Lohan branch out into the world of pop music with the album Speak; the supposedly confessional -- and similarly undistinguished -- A Little More Personal followed in 2005.



All of the hullabaloo seemed to have little effect on her work, as she starred in Herbie: Fully Loaded for Disney -- suffering a bout of "exhaustion" on set -- before graduating to more adult fare with Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion. Playing a morose poetess, the young actress ably held her own against Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin when the film opened in 2006; around that time, her first shot at a "grown-up" romantic comedy, Just My Luck, opened to little notice from the public or critics.



Undaunted, Lohan set to work on another grande-dame comedy, Georgia Rule, in which she played a wayward, risk-taking teenage girl who is hauled off to live with her stern grandmother (Jane Fonda) for the summer. Perhaps fittingly, Lohan's own tardy behavior on the Georgia Rule set prompted a very public memo from the film's backers, who claimed her late-night partying was endangering the shoot; a short stay in rehab followed in early 2007. For all the publicity generated by Lohan's wild-child routine, Georgia Rule tanked when it opened in May of that year, although many critics preferred Lohan's performance over those of her histrionic co-stars Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman. The actress' R-rated summer blitz continued with the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, just as her work in the widely panned Mark David Chapman biopic Chapter 27 made the festival rounds. This trifecta of flops was complemented by an increasingly erratic public image, as she found herself involved in two DUI arrests within two months' time that same summer. Both prompted stays in rehab, as well as mammoth media attention.

Kate Beckinsale was born on July 26, 1973, to two seasoned British television actors, and spent most of her life in London. Her half-sister, Samantha, is also an actress; they only met briefly when Kate was very young and didn't cross paths again until 1995.

Delving into children-oriented films isn't a bad idea, since Kate Winslet is also mother to Mia (her daughter with ex-husband Jim Threapleton) and Joe (her son with husband Sam Mendes).

Oscar sure does like Kate. She holds the record for being the youngest actor to receive four Academy Award nominations, all by the age of 29. She was nominated for an Academy Award for the third time in 2002, as Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Iris. And her fourth Oscar nod in 2005 was for Best Actress for her work in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). Some might even argue that Kate was robbed of a nomination for her stellar performance as a widowed mother of four boys in 2004's Finding Neverland.
Kate is no stranger to award nominations, however. By 2005, she had already been nominated for four Golden Globe awards, and in 2007, she received a fifth for her role in the critically acclaimed Little Children.
